If you are going to turn your attic into a functional room, so make sure that your contractor packs key areas in the new space tightly with insulation. You’ve perhaps been told that the lighter colors cause a room to appear bigger and darker ones make it seem smaller, however it’s quite a bit more complicated than that. If you think taupes and whites are boring, consider having a monochromatic color palette in your favorite color, or use a few colors that all give off equal brightness. Attic rooms need to have vents installed, as they will tend to get quite a bit hotter and stuffier than the rest of the house, even during the winter time (heat rises, so the attic will be a few degrees above the rest of the house when the heating is working properly). Rodriguez Harvey House by Loi Architecture

Loi Architecture have designed the Rodríguez Harvey House in Tunquen, a costal area in the central region of Chile.

The single story small house project is 139 sqm has completed in 2009. The single story wooden house is located in the upper part, in order to get the best views towards the ocean. Three volumes inside this grid containing the main areas of the house living space and bedrooms. The living area volume has a complete double height in order to get the sun light, and also protects laterally the terrace from the south-east wind. The dining and kitchen area are located one step above the living area, avoiding its furnishings from blocking the views. [Read more...]
